Weymouth is a large coastal town in Dorset on the south coast of England. Situated on the English Channel coast (more specifically located at the mouth of the River Wey, and found on the western shore of Weymouth Bay), Weymouth is a popular tourist resort, and amongst other things offers tourists a sandy beach and shopping centre in the Melcombe Regis area. It is also located within the Jurassic Coast (World Heritage Site on the East Devon and Dorset coast). The harbour at Weymouth serves pleasure boats, private vessels, a fishing fleet, and cross-channel ferries. Weymouth. Places nearby to Weymouth include the Isle of Portland and the town of Dorchester. There are also two RSPB Nature Reserve lakes in the region, Lodmoor and Radipole Lake. The South Dorset Downs also lies between Weymouth and Dorchester.
